About Us

Greenseas has been supplying Australian families with a range of quality tuna products for almost 40 years. From humble beginnings, we have grown to become the leading tuna brand. The main reason, of course, is the quality of our tuna. At Greenseas, we have gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure that the tuna we fish is the best quality tuna available..

We have also gone to extraordinary lengths to preserve our precious marine environment by being the first to introduce Dolphin Safe fishing techniques.

We have been the leader in delivering delicious flavour varieties too. Along the way we have introduced some of the most exciting and popular flavour varieties on the market, and have expanded our range to offer delicious salmon and sardine varieties.

In fact, there is something in the Greenseas range for every diet, taste and eating occasion.

Tuna - The Process From Sea to Supermarket

Once the fish is caught, the quality is preserved by rapidly freezing the tuna at sea before storing.

When the boats dock at the wharf, there are many procedures that the tuna have to undergo before being canned.

  1. Frozen tuna are unloaded and weighed. The tuna is sorted and the tuna that meets the Greenseas criteria is sent to giant thawing tanks.
  2. Thawed fish are cleaned, inspected for purity and sorted.
  3. Placed on racks, they are cooked for peak flavour.
  4. The cooled tuna is skinned, boned, the red meat removed, cut into fillets and re-inspected.
  5. Under strict Quality Control procedures, tuna is blended with delicious flavours and sealed in consumer friendly packaging for all occasions.
  6. Sealed products are commercially sterilised for safety, which process also cooks the product to blend the flavours. Product is re-inspected.
  7. Labels are applied and products are packed and shipped. The finished product is checked again by the Greenseas team once it is shipped.

It’s fair to say the Greenseas team eat tuna a number of times a week – we are certainly getting our omega 3 requirements.

From catch to shipping, Greenseas tuna is subject to the most stringent quality control inspections.

Greenseas has its own team on the ground checking that all product complies with our strict criteria from catch to shipping.

How is the Tuna Caught?

Greenseas uses a method called purse seining. These vessels use mile-long nets to encircle the tuna. These nets encircle tuna and are closed off by drawstrings similar to a drawstring purse.

Greenseas tuna is caught in the Western Pacific Ocean.

Dolphin Safe

Greenseas tuna was the first canned tuna brand to introduce Dolphin Safe fishing practices and introduce the symbol on pack.

Greenseas tuna is caught in areas where dolphins do not school with tuna. Greenseas do not use drift or grill net methods to catch tuna.
